Why therapy?
People often try everything that they can to solve their difficulties on their own before calling a psychologist. With intelligence, compassion and humor, I can help you better see and resolve the aspects of your emotional life that are interfering with your happiness or success. I focus on your strengths and resources and offer feedback on how to work to improve those areas you are seeking to change or manage more successfully.

Where is your office?
My office is located at 1315 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, between 13th Street and Broad Street. It is a short walk from several bus stops and subway stations, as well as convenient to street and garage parking.

What are your hours?
I conduct 50-minute sessions on Mondays through Fridays. If you call me, I will get back to you in as timely a manner as possible; evening calls may not be returned until the next day.
 
What are your fees? What if I have to cancel?
My fees are in line with those of other private practitioners in Philadelphia, and are payable by check or cash at time of treatment. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice need to be paid for, although I will make every effort to reschedule within the same week, if that's possible.
 
Will my insurance cover my treatment costs?
I currently accept Penn Behavioral Health and Highmark Blue Shield.  For all other insurance carriers, I provide treatment on an out-of-network basis, which is often partially covered.  If you would like to find out how much your insurance company will reimburse you, I recommend you contact your carrier and ask them how much they will reimburse for the specific services you are seeking (i.e., initial assessment (90801), individual psychotherapy (90806), and family therapy (90846/90847). In determining how much you will be reimbursed, be sure to ask them the percentage of the doctor's fees they will reimburse, if you have a deductible, and if there is a maximum allowable amount. I can also provide monthly statements of your therapy charges for you to submit directly along with your claims.
 
The Mental Health Parity law, which took effect on January 1, 2010, mandates that psychotherapy benefits be equal to other medical coverage, with no arbitrary limits or separate deductibles. This law applies to both in-network and out-of-network psychotherapy benefits, and may mean that your psychotherapy benefits are now better than they were previously.  I will cooperate to ensure that your psychotherapy benefits work for you.
 
Is patient information confidential?
A sense of security is essential to successful therapy. Because I am independent from managed health-care organizations and insurance companies, I'm not required to routinely divulge sensitive information about my patients.
 
In addition, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a psychologist. Information is not disclosed without written permission. There are (3) exceptions to this rule.
If a client suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The psychologist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s. The psychologist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety.
